Civil Engineering Department
         Civil engineering primarily covers activities of engineering discipline from planning, designing and construction of buildings to development of water supplying structures. Civil engineering industry also encompasses areas like soil and rock mechanics, surveying, material science and environmental science.

      Besides designing, planning or construction of buildings, some other major application fields of civil engineering industry are management of residential and commercial buildings, transportation system, fields regarding water supplying activities, and environmental fields, which is basically studied for the maintenance and enhancement of quality of life. Civil engineering specifically deals with the activities of designing and construction of structures like bridges, dams, harbors, canals, roads, tunnels, and water-supply systems, power plants, aircraft, water-treatment plants etc.

     Civil engineering has the potential to build a strong economy and so more multinational companies and engineers are showing their interests to be involved with this industry. With the development of society and because of technological advancement, demands of civil engineering activities are also increasing.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
The educational objectives of the programme are designed to produce competent engineers who shall:

1 Apply knowledge of Transportation system analysis, design, modeling and simulation to provide solutions to industrial problems in diverse domains.

2 Undertake the professional career by developing system and services to address social, technical and economical challenges and needs.

3 To do research under collaborative and multidisciplinary environments using modern tools, processes and creative efforts.
 
Programme Outcomes (POs)
On completion of the M. Tech. (Transportation Engineering) programme, the students shall be able to:

PO-1 Acquire knowledge and skills to evaluate, analyze, synthesize, model and integrate the knowledge of transportation engineering to develop new transportation systems and improve level of services.

PO-2 Search out relevant technical information, use analytical tools to formulate problems and identify optimal solutions in wider theoretical, practical and policy contexts.

PO-3 Develop workable solutions to issues related to engineering, societal and economical needs considering public health, safety, cultural and environmental factors in the context of overall development of communities.

PO-4 Demonstrate ability to work for new challenges and problems, through investigative studies and research and contribute to the development of technological knowledge and intellectual property.

PO-5 Identify, formulate, model and solve engineering problems with modern simulation tools and technologies.

PO-6 Possess knowledge for functioning effectively, as a member or team leader, in executing projects under diverse and multidisciplinary environments.

PO-7 Demonstrate knowledge of transportation engineering processes, project management and finance principles to be able to manage projects efficiently.

PO-8 Communicate effectively in written, oral and graphical forms, provide instructions and present the results in a professional manner to the engineering personnel and the society.

PO-9 Develop ability to learn reflectively from mistakes, engage in lifelong learning, adapt new developments and participate in continuing education opportunities to foster personal and organizational growth.

PO-10 Demonstrate independent learning and scholarship by adopting research pursuits.

PO-11 Understand contemporary issues in providing technology solutions for sustainable development using intelligent transportation system considering impact of economic, social, political, and global issues and thereby contribute to the welfare of the society.

PO-12 Demonstrate integrity, ethical behavior and commitment to code of conduct of professional practices and standards.
