Electrical Engineering Department
Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. It now covers a range of subtopics including power, electronics, control systems, signal processing and telecommunications. The main aim is to ensure the safe usage of electricity. For this purpose they are given the responsibility of designing electrical appliances as well as the wiring system of electricity to ensure supply of electricity to these appliances. Electrical engineers are concerned with designing the flight systems of aircrafts and rocket propulsion systems. Industrial automation and automobile control system design are also a part of electrical engineering. Electrical engineering has an important role to play in many other fields of study. For instance, signal processing makes use of the principles of electrical engineering in modifying the digital and analog nature of the signals to obtain the required output.

Program Educational Objectives of Mtech (IPS) (PEOs)

The program Educational Objectives of the Integrated power system programme are designed to produce competent engineers who are ready to contribute effectively to the advancement of Integrated power system causes and to accommodate the needs of the profession. The graduates shall:

1. Apply knowledge of electrical systems to analyze, design, model ,simulate and thereby provide solutions to electrical drives system.

2. Pursue creative efforts and research in power electronics engineering and find solutions to technical problems using modern tools and technologies.

3. Demonstrate professional and ethical behavior and be engaged in executing projects in multidisciplinary environment for the benefit of society.

Program Outcomes (POs)

The programme is targeted at developing the following competencies, skills and abilities amongst students. They shall be able to:

1. Scholarship of Knowledge: Acquire in depth knowledge to evaluate and integrate technologies in power electronics engineering with global perspective.

2. Make critical appraisal of power electronics and drives related problems independently and propose optimal solution considering energy efficiency, economic, public health, safety and environmental issues

3. Demonstrate ability to identify and define problems in drives through surveys and use appropriate research methodologies for analysis

4. Exhibit ability to analyze modern power electronics and drive system using modern tools.

5. Possess knowledge for functioning effectively, as a member or team leader, in executing projects under diverse and multidisciplinary environments.

6. Demonstrate knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, project management and finance principles to be able to manage projects efficiently.

7. Communicate effectively in written, oral and graphical forms, provide instructions and present the results in a professional manner to the engineering personnel and the society.

8. Develop ability to learn reflectively from mistakes, engage in lifelong learning, adapt new developments and participate in continuing education opportunities to foster personal and organizational growth..

9. Demonstrate independent learning and scholarship by adopting research pursuits.

10. Understand contemporary issues in providing technology solutions for sustainable development considering impact of economic, social, political and global issues and thereby contribute to the welfare of the society.

11. Demonstrate integrity, ethical behavior and commitment to code of conduct of professional practices and standards
