Civil Engineering Department
         Civil engineering primarily covers activities of engineering discipline from planning, designing and construction of buildings to development of water supplying structures. Civil engineering industry also encompasses areas like soil and rock mechanics, surveying, material science and environmental science

Besides designing, planning or construction of buildings, some other major application fields of civil engineering industry are management of residential and commercial buildings, transportation system, fields regarding water supplying activities, and environmental fields, which is basically studied for the maintenance and enhancement of quality of life. Civil engineering specifically deals with the activities of designing and construction of structures like bridges, dams, harbors, canals, roads, tunnels, and water-supply systems, power plants, aircraft, water-treatment plants etc.

         Civil engineering has the potential to build a strong economy and so more multinational companies and engineers are showing their interests to be involved with this industry. With the development of society and because of technological advancement, demands of civil engineering activities are also increasing.

Programme Educational Objectives

The programme educational objectives of the civil engineering program are designed to produce skilled engineers who are ready to contribute effectively to the advancement of civil engineering profession and are ready to handle the challenges of the profession
They shall be able to:

  1. (PEO1) Apply fundamental technical knowledge and skills to find creative solutions to technological challenges and problems in various domains of Civil Engineering.
  2. (PEO2) Analyze, design and use skills in order to formulate and solve Civil Engineering problems
  3. (PEO3) Practice Civil Engineering in an ethical manner, as an individual or a team member, implementing eco- friendly sustainable technologies.
  4. (PEO4) Take up higher education and R & D in civil engineering and allied areas of science and technology for the benefit of industry and society.
Program Outcomes

The programme is aimed at developing competencies, skills and abilities amongst at the time of graduates. They shall be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments
  12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)
Graduates shall:
  • PSO1: Demonstrate Industrial practices learned through Field Project.
  • PSO2: Demonstrate construction and management practices to solve infrastructural development issues.
  • PSO3: Utilized skills in qualifying competitive exams and demonstrating leadership to emerged as potential entrepreneur.
General Proficiency

     Grooming is very important part of an individual personality. In General Proficiency all efforts are directed to enhance and groom one's outer and inner self to bring about a positive change in one's life, boosting one's confidence, learning fine etiquettes and manners, adding style and grace to the way one looks, talks and walks and overall imbibing oneself with positivity, liveliness and peace.
    This in-turn creates the personality which can match and outwin the competition and as well become well-cultured person with all the required skill sets which are required to be a smart global citizen. The course deals with improving the skills namely Personal Skills, Social Skills, Inter-personal Skills, Family Skills, Soft Skills.

    GHRCE is the first Institute in the region to have started special classes and training sessions for students to hone their persona in general proficiency for readily being acceptable by organizations and schools of higher learning. The T&P Cell and the Departmental Forums design well crafted programs with interface from external agencies to instill vigor and self confidence in students. The singular purpose is to develop in students the ability to learn and understand the nuances of the changing world. The students are taught to walk the extra mile and that there is always a better way to do things.
    
To impart various skills institute has incorporated General Proficiency subject in every semester which will offer
  • Horse riding which is the skill of riding, driving, or vaulting with horses. This broad description includes the use of horses for recreational activities, artistic or cultural exercises, and competitive sport.
  • Health courses like Yoga, Pranayam, Fitness
  • Hobby classes like Dance, Kathak, Synthesizer, Tabla
  • Languages like communication skills, Japanese, Spanish, German, French
