Civil Engineering is one of the major basic branch in engineering. The work ranges from basic concepts related to engineering to the overall developments of the nation. A Civil Engineer responsible for Planning, Analysis, Designing and Execution of the all construction related activities. It also includes cost estimation, hydraulic designs, soil engineering, transportation, environmental issues, surveying etc. Civil Engineers are often expected to provide the best solution possible for the economical, efficient and environment friendly designs to serve the society in best possible ways. This ultimately results in development of creative solutions to problems that often would have been designed differently without the budget constraints dictated by modern society. Now a days the number of cutting edge technologies are available as a part of modern techniques in Civil Engineering to fulfill the societal needs which also creates the scope for research and innovations.

Civil Engineering is the origin of engineering and therefor one of the major basic and core branch in engineering. The scope of the Civil Engineering ranges from basic concepts related to engineering to the overall developments of the nation. A civil engineer is responsible for planning, analysis, designing along with execution of the all infrastructure development related activities. Civil Engineering also includes cost estimation, hydraulic designs, soil engineering, traffic and transportation engineering, highway engineering, environmental issues, land surveying and investigations etc. civil engineers are often expected to provide the best solution possible for the economical, efficient and environment friendly designs to serve the society in best possible ways. This ultimately results in development of creative solutions to problems that often would have been designed differently without the budget constraints dictated by modern society. Our department runs B.Tech. in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. in Transportation Engineering and Structural Engineering. The department has experienced faculty members from all domains like structural engineering, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, water resources engineering and transportation engineering. From the expertise faculty members and well equipped laboratories, we aim to prepare best civil engineers ready for accepting all types of challenges. The syllabus is designed with consultation from IIT and NIT faculty members along with experts from industry for all courses. Along with core subjects, department also conducts skill courses on various softwares like AutoCAD, STAAD Pro., BIM, SAP2000 etc. which are the need of today’s era. The department also offers Majors in Civil Engineering by offering subjects of PG courses to Civil engineering students and Minors by offering core subjects to other students. For UG students, the last semester while for PG students, whole second year, is fully devoted to field project where they work on site to improve their practical knowledge.
After completing graduation in civil engineering, there are many scopes for future studies. Students can opt M.Tech. /M.E., M.S. and M.B.A. Few popular domains are as follows:
After completing studies in civil engineering, both government and private sectors are open for job opportunities. Following are the major departments of Government Sector where civil engineers are needed
