About Department

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. It involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production and operation of machines and tools. Major areas of mechanical engineering industry includes designing, manufacturing, heat transfers, energy conversion, solid mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, measurement mech.

Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating & cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and many more. In other words, mechanical engineers are involved in creating the future. They are the driving force behind many of our technologies and industrial processes including innovative products in our modern world. The work of a Mechanical Engineer can be extremely challenging and fulfilling, requiring IT, design and analytical skills together with an ability to work as a team.

Dr. Rupesh S Shelke

M.Tech, Ph.D.

Area of Interest: Solar Energy, Heat Transfer

Rupesh S Shelke is Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department and possesses more than 20 years of teaching experience. He has completed his graduation In Mechanical Engg from Amravati University and subsequently M.Tech and Ph.D from VNIT Nagpur. He is associated with GHRCE since last 18 years. He has published more than 75 research papers in National/International Journals/Conferences. He has completed 2 AICTE RPS funded projects worth of Rs. 20 Lakh, 8.8 lakhs and 1 IEDC project of department of Science and Technology worth of 1 lakh and 1 MODROB worth of 10 lakh. He has also filed 1 patent and has published a book chapter in solar energy area. He has guided 24 M.Tech students in Heat Power Engineering and more than 40 projects at graduation level.

He is member of professional bodies like ISTE, IE, SESI, ISHRAE and combustion institute of Indian section. He acquired all such certifications and memberships in order to keep himself as well as his department updated with the latest technologies of Mechanical engineering. He also received Best teacher award for the session 2011-12. His areas of interest includes solar energy, heat transfer, IC engine, alternative fuels and Thermal Enggg.

Mechanical engineering is the branch of engineering which deals with the design, manufacturing, maintenance and testing of machines. It is also considered as one of the most diverse and versatile disciplines of engineering. Mechanical engineering also includes the application of mechanics, material science, applied mathematics and physics. With the rise of modern technology, mechanical engineering has witnessed new found importance with more and more students opting to learn less explored domains of robotics, mechatronics, nanotechnology, etc.

Mechanical engineering deal with the concepts of mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, power sector, refrigeration, air conditioning sector and aerospace. There is an immense scope of mechanical engineering now-a-days. Job prospects on offer for skilled engineer are plenty and unending. The scope of mechanical engineering is vast even today. Auto India Racing Championship

SAE Collegiate club, Dept of Mech Engg ,GHRCE Team "Kart Knights "participated in Auto India Racing Championship(AIRC- 2020) organized by IRC in Pune from 7-9th Feb 2020.

Our team got second prize of Rs.7000 and trophy in CAE . Team kart knights got 6th rank in overall event with 601 point. In final racing our vehicle completed 66 laps in 45 minutes.
